Turning corners

That corner of Armenian street in George Town, Penang, has changed so much. Or rather… has changed over and over.

I still recall it as the humble corner I stumbled upon, when I first came here, a corner where memories, in the way of photographic snapshots, accumulated over the years.

It seems that places can change quite easily these days. My faded memories collide with the present.

In George Town, I cherish the sight of local people most, the architecture works alongside them like a theatre backdrop.

Turning different street corners and reflecting on the concept of cultural heritage. Some people may think that what is called heritage ought to be something “special” when in fact, it is just one element that is embedded in the flow of everyday life.

“Existence is not what has occurred, existence is the realm of human possibilities, everything that (people) can become, everything (they are) capable of.”

(from Dialogue on the Art of the Novel, Milan Kundera interviewed by Christian Salmon)
