What to wear, how and for whom or which purpose?
Patchworks is a research project about the globalized life of traditional clothes in Laos, Thailand and Korea, more specifically looking at the influence of global trade, the impact of digital media on the perception and representation of local cultures, the broad transformations that affect cultural experiences across multiple generations.
Part 1 : Grassroots Knowledge and Global Influences featuring a Karen minority weaver-entrepreneur in Chiang Mai and a Hmong self-made fashion designer from Pa Yao, northern Thailand.
Part 2 : Ethnic Fashion, Social Media and Superdiversity in Laos featuring Khmu youths and current trends in their communities.
Part 3 : Unraveling the hanbok: multiple reinventions of the Korean dress around historical narratives, fashion, media and tourism experiences.
Part 4: Toward New Cultural Geographies: contemporary Lao silk and concluding on the cosmopolitan future of Asia’s textile culture between heritage, fashion and technology.
